Title 1

Title I is a federally funded program designed to provide supplemental help for children in reading and math. The Title I staff works with children using Fountas & Pinnell's Leveled Literacy Intervention. This research-based program aims to accelerate literacy growth to move students to grade-level expectations. Students work in small groups outside of the regular classroom.

Students are selected for the program based on teacher recommendations and test scores that indicate the need for additional help. Students in the program are monitored throughout the year. They usually stay in the program until they have reach grade-level expectations or their classroom teacher and Title I teacher feel they are ready to work without extra help.

Our Title I staff is dedicated to helping children master the basic skills that will keep them on track and help them succeed in their classrooms. We work with parents by providing materials and training to assist them in working with their children at home.

One popular Title I program aimed at increasing parent involvement is our Parents in Education (PIE) Nights. PIE Nights are a fun opportunity for Garlough families to come together to learn about reading and math while sharing a meal. Plus, each child that comes to PIE Night leaves with a new book! Check the Garlough school calendar for upcoming PIE Night dates and times.
