English as a Second Language (ESL)

At Garlough Environmental Magnet School, English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers collaborate with classroom teachers to teach district curriculum supported by second language acquisition strategies. Grade level content is made comprehensible using sheltered instruction and scaffolding techniques to meet individual students’ language needs and learning styles. ESL teachers provide support in reading, language arts, science, math and intervention time.

I hold a bachelor's degree in psychology, and minors in Spanish and anthropology, from Hamline University. I enrolled in Hamline's Master's program in 2014 to pursue my K-12 ESL license. I worked as a K-6 tutor in reading, writing, and math at Hamline Elementary from 2006-2010, as well as working at Friendly Hills Middle School from 2012-2018 as an ESL instructional assistant, 6th grade paraprofessional, and special education teacher. I grew up in and currently still live in St. Paul, MN. In my free time I enjoy staying active by playing sports, exercising, and camping/hiking.
